SCHOTT unveils new production facility in Kulim, Malaysia

SCHOTT, a global leader in advanced optics and specialty materials, has unveiled new production facility in Kulim, in the State of Kedah, Malaysia. SCHOTT’s Malaysia facility is part of the company's global manufacturing network, which includes centers of excellence in Germany, North America, Switzerland, and China.

The new site will significantly increase SCHOTT's production capacity, complementing the existing facility in Penang, Malaysia, where it has produced specialty glass for medical diagnostics, and other advanced sectors technical, electronics, semiconductors industries for 50 years. Dr. Andrea Frenzel and Marcus Knöbel of the SCHOTT Board of Management, along with over 300 Malaysian employees, were present to witness the milestone. 

As SCHOTT's regional presence has grown, it has become a strong innovation hub for optical components for medical markets, consumer electronics, and industrial applications. With the new integrated local setup of product development and mass production, product introductions will be seamless and efficient.

Strategically located in Kulim, a bustling high-tech hub near the Penang site, the new facility is dedicated to the production of optical components that SCHOTT supplies to global high-tech industries such as Augmented Reality. The state-of-the-art facility, successfully completed in less than 12 months, will significantly boost SCHOTT’s capacity in optical precision manufacturing, adhering to the highest standards of quality and innovation.
